“Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead is an absurdist and existential exploration of Shakespeare’s Hamlet. The play focuses on the journey of side characters Rosencrantz (Ros) and Guildenstern (Guil) as they progress through Hamlet’s plot, looking at what happens when you’re waiting in the wings. Tom Stoppard uses Ros and Guil to challenge and present many philosophical debates and ideas that question probability, life and fate. Ros and Guil encounter many characters, such as the Tragedians, Claudius, and Hamlet himself, as they journey towards what they question is an inevitable ending; their death.”
